Founder Story

Ella Lim started Lucky Doll in 2006 in Multiply and Ebay Ph. As her customers grew, the demand for wider selection of hard to find sexy products grew and made Lucky Doll what it is now: A curated gallery of all things sexy, from lingerie sets, stockings, garter belts, to plus size lingerie and everything a modern Pinay needs for her daytime and After Dark wardrobe.

The Beginning

After graduating with a degree in Fine Arts, Ella found herself passionate about a myriad of seemingly unrelated interests, including her ska band, longboarding, drawing, and painting, just to name a few. One thing was certain: a corporate 9-to-5 job didn't fit into Ella's list of passions.

Although aware of the thriving e-commerce scene in the US, Ella was initially skeptical about whether this business model would succeed in the Philippines. In 2004, she decided to test the waters by listing a used wallet on eBay as an experiment. To her surprise, it sold within just two days, and suddenly everything became clear to her – the e-commerce revolution was poised to happen in the Philippines. She realized that she could sell anything online and potentially work in pajamas every day.

Great business idea,.. Now What?

An online lingerie store where women can feel safe shopping for underwear discreetly.

Over the years, Ella has transformed Lucky Doll’s mission from being a mere escape from a corporate job into a purpose-driven business. Lucky Doll’s mission is to provide a safe space for women to shop without the fear of being judged or shamed for their sexuality. It aims to be a shop that empowers women of all sizes, promoting self-love and encouraging ownership of one's beauty and confidence.

What’s in a Name?

Ella’s love for 40’s and 50’s vintage fashion originated from her upbringing in a 50’s bungalow house, with a fashionista for a grandma. As a child, she would frequently lock herself in her grandma’s room, immersing herself in play with her pin-up style collection of shoes, dresses, and fashion magazines. Her early exposure to vintage fashion led to an appreciation for the vintage lifestyle and the discovery of Bettie Page, the Queen of Pin-up.

Inspired by a vintage magazine print ad for Lucky Strike, she borrowed "Lucky" and combined it with "Doll" – a 50s slang term for an attractive woman – giving birth to the brand "Lucky Doll®"
