The right bra depends on three things: your bra size, your bust shape, and what you're wearing it under. As a general starting point: push up bras add lift and cleavage for low necklines, balconette bras give a rounded, lifted shape with wide-set straps, plunge bras work under deep-V tops, and seamless bras or wireless bras are best for everyday comfort under fitted clothing. The 2 finger rule is a quick way to check if your band size fits correctly. With the bra fastened on the loosest hook, slide two fingers under the band at your back. They should fit snugly, without gaps and without pinching. If you can fit more than two fingers, the band is too big. If you can't fit two fingers at all, size up. The same check works for straps: you should be able to slip one or two fingers underneath comfortably, with no digging into your shoulders.

To find your bra size at home, you'll need a soft measuring tape and a well-fitting (or no) bra. First, measure snugly around your ribcage, just under your bust, for your band size. Then measure around the fullest part of your bust for your bust size. The difference between the two measurements determines your cup size, for example a 2-inch difference is usually a B cup, 3 inches a C cup, and so on. Because sizing charts vary slightly between brands, treat this as a starting point rather than a final answer, and size up or down based on fit.

Bra cup sizes measure the difference between your band and bust measurements, not the actual size of your bust on its own. That's why the same cup letter can look completely different on two people with different band sizes, a 32C and a 38C hold very different volumes. Cup letters run in order from AA up through A, B, C, D, DD (or E), DDD (or F), and beyond, with each letter representing roughly a 1-inch increase in the band-to-bust difference. Your cup size only makes sense alongside your band size, which is why "bra size" is always written as a number and letter together, like 34B.

There's no single global standard for bra sizing, so different bra sizes across brands come down to each manufacturer using its own fit model, cut, and materials. A 34B in one brand might fit like a 34C in another, especially between local and imported labels. This is completely normal and not a reflection of your body changing. The most reliable approach is to treat any size chart as a guide, try the bra on (or check our fit notes on each product), and go by how it actually feels rather than the label alone.

As a general rule, check your bra size every 6 to 12 months, since bust size and shape shift gradually over time even without a major life change. You should remeasure sooner after pregnancy or breastfeeding, noticeable weight change, starting or stopping hormonal birth control, or if a bra that used to fit well suddenly feels loose in the cup or tight around the band. If several of your bras are riding up in the back or leaving marks, that's usually a sign it's time for a refit rather than a new bra in the same size.

Not every outfit, but having 2 to 3 core styles covers most wardrobes. A good everyday wireless or seamless bra handles t-shirts and fitted tops, a strapless bra or adhesive bra covers off-shoulder and backless pieces, and a push up or balconette bra works for low necklines where you want more shape. Building your collection around outfit gaps, rather than buying the same style repeatedly, is the fastest way to solve most fit and comfort complaints.
