Panty Style & Fit Questions, Answered

Not sure which panty style, fabric, or size fits your needs? Here's what we get asked most often, so you can shop with confidence.

The main difference is how much coverage sits at the back. A thong has a thin strip at the back with little to no coverage, a cheeky panty covers more of the lower cheek while still sitting higher than a full brief, and a bikini panty offers moderate, classic coverage that sits at or just below the hip. All three can come in the same fabrics, lace, cotton, or seamless, so the choice usually comes down to how visible you want the back seam to be under your clothes.

Your panty size is based on your hip measurement, not your waist. Wrap a soft measuring tape around the fullest part of your hips, keeping it level and snug but not tight, then match that number to our size chart on each product page. Because cuts vary between styles, a size that fits perfectly in a bikini cut may sit slightly differently in a high-waist or boyshort style, so when in between sizes, sizing up is usually the more comfortable choice.

For fitted skirts, dresses, or leggings, a seamless panty is your safest choice since it's knitted without a stitched edge, so there's no visible line. If you're wearing something backless or very fitted through the hip, a C string thong removes side seams almost entirely. Avoid lace or anything with visible trim under thin, light-colored fabric, as the texture can show through even when the cut itself is fine.

It depends on where the lace sits. A lace panty with a cotton lined gusset (the fabric panel closest to your body) is just as comfortable for daily wear as any other style, the lace is decorative on the outer layer only. What can feel less comfortable for all-day wear is scratchy, unlined lace directly against skin, especially in humid weather. If comfort is your top priority, look for "cotton-lined" or "cotton gusset" in the product description before choosing an all-lace style.

Cotton is the most breathable option and generally the best choice for everyday wear, especially in hot or humid weather. Lace is more feminine and decorative, best for outfits where you want something pretty rather than purely practical. Seamless fabric sits in between, soft and stretchy like cotton, but engineered to disappear completely under fitted clothing. Most people are happiest owning a mix of all three rather than committing to just one.

A crotchless panty is styled with an open panel at the gusset instead of full fabric coverage there, while the rest of the panty, waistband, sides, and back, stays fully intact. It's designed for intimate occasions rather than everyday wear, and typically comes in the same lace, high-waist, or thong-style cuts as our other categories, just with that one design difference.

Most wardrobes are covered with 3 to 4 core styles. A thong or C string for fitted and backless outfits, a high waist or boyleg style for tummy coverage and comfort, a cheeky panty for the in-between days, and one or two lace sets for when you want to feel a little more dressed up. Building around what each outfit needs, rather than buying the same style over and over, is the easiest way to actually use everything in your drawer.
